https://hypnosistrainingacademy.com/top-hypnosis-training-articles/?utm_campaign=linkb&utm_medium=article-to-bp&utm_source=hta-blogspot&utm_term=CT

You may have noticed that the Hypnosis Training Academy is packed with hypnosis resources.

But all of this content has one thing in common when it was mindfully created: to guide, teach and nurture you through your hypnosis training journey and pursuit of mastery.

After all, as Pablo Picasso famously said:

“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”

While Pablo might have coined this quote first, it really is the reason why this blog even exists.

But we admit, with so much content to sink your teeth into, it can be a little daunting knowing where to start.

Which is why we thought it would be a nifty idea to compile a list of our “greatest hypnosis hits” so to speak – minus any one hit wonders, that is.

The articles listed below have been our most popular among our readers in their quest to be a powerful force for good in the world using the power of hypnosis.

To help you navigate through this list, we’ve broken the posts up into 4 categories: ethical conversational hypnosis, hypnotherapy, self-hypnosis and general hypnosis.

Stuck In A Self-Hypnosis Rut? Try These 13 Powerful Induction Methods To Induce A Deep Trance – 2nd Edition

Stuck In A Self-Hypnosis Rut? Try These 13 Powerful Induction Methods To Induce A Deep Trance - 2nd Edition

When it comes to inducing a deep, self-hypnotic trance, a common misconception is that there is a magical, fool-proof method.

There is not.

The secret sauce is actually much more localized, specific to each individual’s practice.

If you haven’t guessed, it all boils down to you.

To what your mindset is, and your willingness to persevere if you hit a brick wall.

One reason many people fail at self-hypnosis is because they tend to focus on the method first, and when this doesn’t work, there is a strong temptation to give up and let out an exasperated exhale.

Needless to say, this is not a very effective approach. Which is exactly why we encourage the opposite.

In order to master self-hypnosis, you need to first focus on mastering yourself, and only then use an induction method to get you into a trance.

A little like how if you’re a hypnotist, you need to set a positive intention (your H+) before putting a subject into trance.

If you rock up to the session in a grumpy mood feeling distracted, no matter which techniques you use, they’re not going to work.

Your mood will rub off on your subject. If you have trouble going into a trance first (going first), and setting the tone you want your subject to experience, how do expect them to reach the desired state?

The same is true when you practice self-hypnosis. You need to set your mental state first, and only then use your desired induction method.

How To Set The Right Mental State For Self-Hypnosis

Having a go-to induction method can be useful as it helps your brain get into sync and quickly get down to business.
But of course, no two days are the same. What works for you one day may be less powerful on another, depending on your state of mind.

So mixing things up by using different techniques can be a useful way to keep the conscious mind stimulated and focused before you sink into a deep trance.

But before starting with an induction method, it is important to remind yourself of why you want to get into a trance.

The reason self-hypnosis is so powerful is because of how it gives you the ability to gain access to the unconscious, which is why it’s a fantastic tool for tapping into creativity, abundant mindsets, problem solving – among many other things.

So having a clear idea in advance of what you want to achieve during self-hypnosis will set you off on the right foot.

However, it is the gaining access to your unconscious that often poses the greatest challenge. If you’re having trouble inducing yourself into a hypnotic state, do not get frustrated.

What may appear to be a problem is a learning opportunity for improving your ability to go under.

[AUDIO] Interview With Master NLP Practitioner & Hypnosis Trainer: Martijn Groenendal Reveals How NLP Will Make You Better Hypnotist

Interview With Master NLP Practitioner & Hypnosis Trainer: Martijn Groenendal Reveals How NLP Will Make You Better Hypnotist

Hypnosis & NLP.

These two worlds often crossover.

So today we have Martijn Groenendal, NLP and master hypnosis trainer here to clear up any confusion in case you’ve ever wondered where to focus your own practice and training.

As you listen to the audio, you’ll notice NLP and Hypnosis do have a lot in common. Milton Erickson, the father of hypnosis, was one of the "therapeutic wizards" who inspired the linguist-mathematician duo Richard Bandler and John Grinder to figure out a "recipe" for the most effective therapeutic model to teach others.

The outcome?

Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

In terms of methodology, NLP is a collection of structures, strategies and techniques to help you change your internal dialogue. The idea is to change the "pictures and movies" in your mind because if you think different, you feel different and then you start to behave differently.

Hypnosis on the other hand uses a more open and creative way to communicate with the unconscious mind.

But what most people don’t realise is how NLP and Hypnosis reinforce one another and actually work most powerfully when used in combination.

As Martijn eloquently puts it "Hypnosis taught me everything about NLP and NLP taught me everything about Hypnosis."

So go ahead and listen to Martijn’s experience with NLP and Hypnosis to understand how he puts them together to create "through the roof" results for his clients.

How To Read Someone’s Mind: 5 Ethical Hypnotic Mind Reading Techniques So You Can Be A Force For Positive Change – 2nd Edition

How To Read Someone’s Mind: 5 Ethical Hypnotic Mind Reading Techniques So You Can Be A Force For Positive Change – 2nd Edition

Wouldn’t it be great if you could uncover a fact about someone that they hadn’t yet divulged to a living soul, and then use this information to enrich their life?

This is exactly what Milton Erickson regularly did. He was renowned for making unbelievable - yet accurate - predictions about people.

He once astounded a doctor colleague of his by congratulating her on her pregnancy.

This sounds all perfectly normal, you might be thinking.

But where things venture into the unusual is due to the fact that she had literally only just discovered that she was pregnant. She was yet to reveal the exciting news to anyone.

So how did he do this? Not even the baby’s father was aware of the pregnancy at this stage.

Although Erickson’s insight seemed like magic, he had, in fact, simply used his powers of observation.

And no, it wasn’t because she was showing either - as there was no obvious baby bump in sight.

However, he did happen to know about a condition known as Chloasma. This can develop in some pregnant women, and causes a mark (not dissimilar to skin pigmentation) to appear their forehead. This is also sometimes known as the "mask of pregnancy."

So rather than having some magical power, Erickson had observed that his colleague’s forehead bore this mark, so after presuming that she was pregnant, he congratulated her (while obviously astounding her in the process).

What Is Hypnotic Mind Reading And How Does It Work?

For hypnotists, language is all important and the words you use can either help or hinder you.

It’s important to be aware of the ways in which Hypnotic Mind Reading differs from Psychological Mind Reading.

Hypnotic Mind Reading should always be used to enrich someone’s life and be based on observations you make about a person. It should never be based on lies or deception!

But when used ethically, Hypnotic Mind Reading is an absolute killer way to bypass the critical factor - helping you to access a subject’s unconscious mind and get to work with helping them overcome whatever issue they’ve come to you for.

Meaning this technique is very effective when working with resistant subjects. But we can’t reiterate enough - using this kind of technique is only warranted when you have the intention of actually helping a subject. It should never be used for your own or someone else’s benefit.

Basically, it goes back to hypnosis ethics 101 where you only use this powerful skill to be a force for good in the world.

Psychological Mind Reading, on the other hand, is generally used for entertainment and is designed to be deceptive.

Here is a case study which is a prime example of how it is used in entertainment.

How To Seamlessly Break Down Someone’s Resistance During Hypnosis With The Non-Awareness Set

breakdown resistance during hypnotherapy
What’s the point of hypnosis?

If you said to help people, you’d be right. That’s the ultimate goal. To be a force for good in the world. No arguments there.

However, there’s a problem. Because, as a hypnotist, you can only help people if you’re able to hypnotize them. While that statement seems a little contradictory, it’s not. And here’s why.

If you want to hypnotize someone, you have to put them into a trance. You have to bypass their conscious critical mind.

You have to make contact with their unconscious mind, because that’s where the power to make change resides. And the only way you can do that is by breaking down their resistance.

That’s a particularly useful skill to have with certain kinds of people – people who think things through too much, or perhaps who’ve never been hypnotized before. Reason being, in these types of cases, you may encounter more resistance, at least during the initial phases.

As a hypnotist, you might already know lots of techniques you can use to break down someone’s resistance.

But, they take time. Ideally you need something that’s fast, reliable, effective and easy to use. Something that fits into the 4-stage hypnosis protocol like a glove.

Something like the Non-Awareness Set.

5 Things You Need To Know About Mastering The Non-Awareness Set

The Non-Awareness Set is a technique created by hypnosis pioneer Dr. Milton Erickson. Check out the points below so you can master it just like the late and great Erickson did:

We’ll take a detailed look at all 4 components that make up the Non-Awareness Set shortly. But first, what’s the point of using it in the first place?

keep reading to why is the non-awareness set so effective when it comes to breaking down resistance in hypnosis? Learn from hypnosis experts about the 4 basic components in the Non-Awareness set, their benefits, the right time to put that into the practice.

How To Use A Pendulum During Self-Hypnosis

How To Use A Pendulum During Self-Hypnosis

In theory, self-hypnosis sounds like a pretty easy task: Simply sit with your eyes closed, relax, connect with your breath and guide your thoughts towards a specific intention.

However, in reality, it can be much more challenging than this very basic instruction. This is because the conscious mind often has another agenda. One that involves distracting you with a million thoughts so you’re unable to truly connect with that all-important unconscious mind.

So when this inevitably happens (especially when you're starting out), it’s important to find a way to bypass the critical factor (aka, the conscious mind) so you can get to "work."

And one of the most effective (and easiest) ways to do this is to use a pendulum.

The History Of The Pendulum

People first started using the pendulum for water dowsing in Europe back at the turn of the 19th century.

But it wasn’t until a Frenchman by the name of Michel Eugene Chevreul started experimenting with it that he realized there was more to it than meets the eye.

What he found was that the pendulum had no magical properties on its own. Although, rather interestingly, it did give an ideodynamic response when interacting with the unconscious mind, causing it to move when it receives a signal.

In other words, when the unconscious mind expects something to happen, it gives little micro-muscular twitches that cause the pendulum to move one way or another.

While these signals are very subtle, they can easily be read using a pendulum, helping you to communicate with your unconscious mind.

How To Make A Pendulum

If you have a pendant and a necklace, you can easily use these as your pendulum. But if you don’t, you can make one by simply tying a bolt or nut onto a piece of thread.

Regardless of whether you buy a pendulum or make one, it’s a good idea to carry it around for a few days so it attunes with your energy.

Using The Pendulum

Step 1: Familiarize Yourself With Your Pendulum

Hold the pendulum loosely between your thumb and index finger. Make sure your elbow is free floating, and not resting on a table or locked in place.

Stay relaxed and loose, and start familiarizing yourself with the feel of your pendulum.

Start by swinging your pendulum, making large swings and then smaller swings. Notice how it feels in your wrist, arm and fingertips when it swings.

Once you become familiar with the weight and the feel, you can then begin practicing using it as a tool to communicate with the unconscious mind.

Step 2: Clear Your Mind

Start by connecting with your breath by doing some simple breathing exercises (like you normally would do during self-hypnosis or meditation).

5 Highly Effective (And Creative) Ways To Isolate The Conscious Mind And Speak Directly With The Unconscious Mind

5 Highly Effective (And Creative) Ways To Isolate The Conscious Mind And Speak Directly With The Unconscious Mind

Hypnosis works because it can do something extraordinary.

It can access the power of the human brain.

It can help switch off the conscious, critical, analytical mind and let the unconscious mind take over.

As soon as that happens, your subject can go into trance.

And once they’re in a trance, that’s when you can start helping them solve their problems.

Of course, because people can go into a trance completely on their own.

When they’re watching TV, or reading a book, or driving a car. Their thoughts drift away, almost as if their conscious mind was taking a break.

At times like that, it happens by accident. Where hypnosis is concerned, though, you want it to happen deliberately.

But how do you go about it?

Believe it or not, you can access the unconscious mind just by talking to people. You can put them in a trance with nothing more than a conversation... and without them even knowing you’re doing it.

Here are 5 powerful techniques that will enable you to achieve that.

1. Anecdote: The Hypnotic Power Of A Good Story

Can you guess how many books are published every year?

Or how many movies are released?

Probably a lot more than you think. But why so many?

Because everybody loves a good story.

Whether it’s in the form of a novel or a film. Stories have the power to transport us.

To let us experience other people’s lives.

To help us put our problems into perspective.

And one of the easiest ways to tell a story is using the anecdote, or the My Friend John format.

It doesn’t have to be John.

It could be any name, male or female, depending on the subject and the situation.

You’re simply telling a story about a friend of yours. To follow what you’re saying, the subject has to play along. To get involved.

To relive the experience with you. And if that experience involves going into a trance, and slowing down the breathing, your subject will find it difficult to resist.

Meaning you’ll get them into a trance without even trying.

Naturally, you won’t be able to use the My Friend John (or Frank, or Barbara) technique over and over on the same subject.

Instead, you can branch out into other forms of storytelling called hypnotic lectures.

These can be either direct or indirect:

  • Direct - This involves telling stories that allow people to have an experience. Stories about figures from history or literature. Stories that already have a natural trance theme embedded in them. Like the story of Mesmer, or the Oracle of Delphi, or Milton Erickson. Or the Thousand and One Nights, where Scheherazade stalls her own execution by telling gripping stories that end with a cliffhanger. The only way for her executioner to hear the rest of the story is to spare her life, and so each night Scheherazade finishes one tale and starts another, always leaving her audience wanting more.
  • Indirect - This involves distancing yourself from the story entirely. You tell it as if it’s a story you read about, or saw on TV, or found in a report, or watched in a film. Because it’s not "your" story but someone else’s, it absolves you of any responsibility. This is particularly useful if your audience is skeptical in any way, either about hypnosis or about the subject you’re presenting.
David Hawkins quotes

2. Irresistible Induction: Your Own Performing Monkey

Want to take the perfect subject with you everywhere you go? That’s what performers did in the old days.

To others, it appeared that they were choosing people from the audience at random. In fact, those people were paid to travel around with the performer.

If you looked, you’d find them in every show, sprinkled in among the crowd. And once people saw them being influenced, being put into a trance, it reinforced their belief in the hypnotist.

It made it easier for him to hypnotize other members of the audience.

Why?

Because while he was putting his "planted" subjects into trance, the trance state affected other members of the audience too.

But doing the same thing these days is impractical.

Paying people to follow you around from one show to another can get expensive, and it might even lead to charges of fraud or misconduct.

So instead, why not use the next best thing? Yourself.

Simply describe what it feels like when you go into trance, but change from the first person to the second person.

It will sound like you’re talking about somebody else – the way their body relaxes, the way their breathing slows down, the quiet and serenity they feel inside - when in fact you’re simply describing your own experience entering a trance.

And unless they’re made of stone, your subjects will find themselves doing the same thing.

Being pulled irresistibly into an induction without even being aware of it. Read More »

Conclusion

You can use any or all of these techniques in whatever order you wish.

Their power lies in their ability to create a dissociation between the conscious and unconscious minds.

This helps you separate experiences out so you’re able to do something with them.

But what’s really cool is this - you can do all of it just by talking. Just by holding what seems to be an ordinary conversation. Giving you the power to "talk" to the unconscious mind directly.
